A Letter to Gerardo, Antonio and Ramon from the Free the Cuban 5 Committee - Vancouver
February 27, 2014
Dear Gerardo, Antonio and Ramon,
As the participants in the February 27, 2014 meeting of the Free the Cuban 5 Committee – Vancouver, we are writing to join with you in celebrating with the entire nation of Cuba the fact that Fernando will soon be joining Rene in Cuba. We are sure you are celebrating his release because time and time again you have all shown your incredible humanity and selflessness, even when facing such harsh conditions and continued unjust imprisonment by Government of the United States.
We are coming up very quickly to March 5th and our 100th Monthly Picket Action in front of the US Consulate in Vancouver demanding your freedom. We will be joined by solidarity actions in Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec City, Chicago, San Francisco and others, to denounce your unjust imprisonment, and to demand your immediate release. In the midst of organizing the final details, the participants in our meeting wanted to send you this message of love and solidarity to re-confirm that we are not letting up one bit in the struggle for your freedom.
When you were all arrested in 1998, we are certain that the US government did not anticipate that 15 years later there would be such a loud and growing international outcry demanding your freedom. We have seen how motivated and effective Rene has been in the Cuban 5 campaign since his release, and are now sure Fernando can only help to multiply the efforts.
Today is another step forward in the campaign for your freedom. On March 5th we will be on the streets with people internationally continuing the struggle!
With Love and Solidarity,
Free the Cuban 5 Committee – Vancouver
