The Free the Cuban 5 Committee-Vancouver would like to express our deepest solidarity with the Cuban people, the 5 Cuban Heroes and especially the victims and family members of victims of U.S. backed terrorist attacks against Cuba.

In Vancouver, Canada, 35 years later we reflect on the importance of this historical moment for the Cuban people, the case of the 5 Cuban Heroes and for peace loving people around the world.

On this date in 1976, admitted terrorist Luis Posada Carriles planned the bombing of Air Cubana flight #455 in mid-air. This terrorist attack, which claimed the lives of all 73 innocent passengers, has never been brought to justice. Today the organizer of the crime, Posada, walks freely in Miami, while the 5 Cuban Heroes, who harmed no one, remain in prison. As we remember the lives of those that were lost, we must remember that this criminal action is part of the same attack that the 5 Cuban Heroes were sent to the U.S. to prevent.

This October 6th, 2011 the Free the Cuban 5 Committee-Vancouver and supporters of the 5 Heroes will be gathering in front of the U.S. Consulate for the 71st monthly protest action in Vancouver to demand justice for the victims of U.S. backed terrorism against Cuba and the immediate freedom of the 5 Cuban Heroes held in U.S. jails.

Our hearts are with you, the victims of terrorism against Cuba, and with all the heroic Cuban people as we mark this important moment with renewed commitment in the struggle against U.S. backed terrorism. As Cuba says “A better world is possible!”
